Last month HM Land Registry published a press release about a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed with Ordnance Survey.
I asked Land Registry for a copy of the MoU. Land Registry has handled my request under the FOI Act and today provide its response with disclosure of three documents:
- the OS/HMLR Memorandum of Understanding, as a draft dated October 2025;
- a letter of intent, from Land Registry to OS dated November 2025; and
- a Supply of Services Agreement, on OS terms dated March 2021.
The second and third documents are incorporated into the MoU as schedules.
I understand the disclosed draft of the MoU to be the latest/final version, as that was specified in my information request. Last month's press release refers to the MoU as having now been signed between OS and Land Registry.
Land Registry has made redactions to all three documents, on the basis that some of the information "would be likely to prejudice the commercial interests of both HM Land Registry and Ordnance Survey". It is difficult to tell whether the redactions are concealing anything significant.
Given that the MoU seems to have been initated by Land Registry last year and the latest version apparently also dates from last year, last month's press release does not seem to represent any more recent change in the working relationship between OS and Land Registry.
